NYC Multi-Family Renovation Delivers Energy Efficiency Upgrades eligible for $4 per square foot in federal incentives

A multi-family building in New York City underwent a $30 million renovation focused on enhancing the building envelope to improve energy efficiency and sustainability. The project included upgrades to insulation, windows, and exterior materials, reducing heat loss and optimizing the building’s overall performance.

The building including the new envelope improvements achieved 37% energy savings above the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline - making the project eligible for a 179D deduction rate of $4.00 per square foot. TaxTaker’s experienced professional engineers were able to certify the deduction through a detailed energy modeling analysis and site visit to verify the energy efficient systems.

With recent expansions under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), 179D now offers greater support for commercial property owners pursuing energy-efficient upgrades. These improvements not only enhance long-term energy performance but also showcase how strategic renovations can deliver meaningful financial and sustainability outcomes.
